History

In early 1992, there was a vision to establish a Baptist church in our area, and on September 6, 1992 the first service of Northwest Community Baptist Church was held with 13 in attendance in the Cheyenne Sheriff Posse Building on Yellowstone Road.

In April 1993, a downpayment was made on 5.75 acres on the corner of Riding Club Road and Yellowstone Road. There were 32 members with seven waiting baptism. We believed God had a great future for His church in this community. Hearts sang with joy as we remembered the words Paul said in 1 Timothy 1: 17 “Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

The first interim pastor was Paul Lewis. On Sunday, June 13, 1993, we welcomed our first full-time pastor Ted Yarbrough and his wife Glenda from San Antonio, TX.

On September 11, 1994, our church was constituted and became self-governing with over fifty members.

August 1995-1999, David & Cindy Crim from Independence, MO served as pastor and pastor’s wife.

In July 2000, the congregation voted unanimously to change our name to Yellowstone Baptist Church.

Pastor Robert (Bob) Weant and his wife Paulita served as interim pastor December 2000-August 2001, and the church called him as pastor on August 3, 2002 until he passed from cancer in 2016. God richly blessed our church under his leadership.

Mickey Wells and his wife Pat, served as interim until June 2017 and again for much of 2020.

Pastor Ken Grant (with his wife Amber) was called to serve as our next pastor. He came with a desire to see the Lord bless and grow the work here at YBC and they served from July 2017 – January 2020.

On November 29, 2020, with an overwhelming majority, YBC called Mark Escalera to serve as our new pastor. He and his wife, Violet, served as church-planters in England and Liberia, West Africa. He also served as pastor in the Carson City, Nevada area before serving as a Bible teacher in a small mission work in Cheyenne until joining Yellowstone in early 2020. They have three grown sons (all USAF veterans), and they have two adopted daughters. We are thankful the Lord has shown His favor in seeing us grow spiritually and numerically. We look forward to seeing where the Lord will take us as we move into 2024 where our focus is on missions and Biblical discipleship.
